1. Introduction

Dorothy’s Corner (“Dorothy’s Corner,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is an educational platform operated by Dorothy’s Corner LLC. We provide interactive educational experiences designed to help children develop confidence, financial literacy, decision-making skills, goal-setting skills, and other practical life skills.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and disclose it, and the choices available to parents, legal guardians, educators, and other users of Dorothy’s Corner.

Dorothy’s Corner is designed so that an adult creates and manages the account. Children are not permitted to create their own accounts or independently provide payment or adult account information.

2. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how Dorothy’s Corner is used.

Adult Account Information

When an adult creates or manages an account, we may collect:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Encrypted or securely managed authentication information
  • Account preferences and settings
  • Subscription status and billing-related information
  • Communications sent to our support team
  • Adult PIN and account-security information
  • Referral or promotional information, when applicable

Learner Profile Information

An adult may create learner profiles under the adult’s account. Depending on the information the adult chooses to provide, we may collect:

  • Learner name, nickname, or profile name
  • Grade level, when the adult chooses to provide it
  • Learner profile settings
  • Learner PIN and related account-security information
  • Selected themes, preferences, or narration settings

Adults should use a first name, nickname, or other non-identifying profile name when possible. Adults and learners should not enter full legal names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, school names, or other sensitive personal information into goals, reflections, answers, or other open-text fields.

Learning and Activity Information

When a learner uses Dorothy’s Corner, we may collect and save information needed to provide the educational experience, including:

  • Apps, chapters, lessons, or activities opened or completed
  • Answers, selections, goals, reflections, journal entries, and activity responses
  • Points, badges, achievements, and rewards
  • Goal-setting, savings, budgeting, and simulated transaction activity
  • Progress, completion status, and learning history
  • Saved topics, preferences, and feature settings
  • Dates and times associated with platform activity

This information allows learners to resume activities and allows the adult account holder to view progress reports and manage learner profiles.

Dorothy’s Corner stores learner-generated responses, reflections, journal entries, goals, and notes when those features are used. Exact written responses are not included in ordinary progress reports. Those reports summarize learning activity, completion, engagement, achievements, and educational categories. A verified parent or legal guardian may separately access or request a copy of the information stored with the learner’s profile, including written responses.

Dorothy’s Corner may access stored information when reasonably necessary to provide support, maintain security, comply with law, or operate the service as disclosed in this policy.

Dorothy’s Corner does not provide public learner profiles, public messaging, public comments, or features that allow learners to communicate with strangers through the platform.

Payment Information

Payments are processed by Stripe. Dorothy’s Corner does not store complete payment-card numbers or card security codes on its own servers.

Stripe may collect information necessary to process payments, prevent fraud, and comply with legal requirements. We may receive limited billing information from Stripe, such as:

  • Billing name and email address
  • Subscription status
  • Payment status and transaction history
  • Card brand, expiration information, and the last four digits of a payment card
  • Stripe customer and subscription identifiers

When someone accesses Dorothy’s Corner, we and our service providers may automatically collect limited technical information, including:

  • Operating system
  • Pages, features, or screens accessed
  • Login, session, and authentication information
  • Dates and times of access
  • Error logs, security events, and performance information
  • Cookie, session, and similar technical identifiers

We use this information to operate the platform, maintain sessions, remember preferences, troubleshoot problems, prevent fraud, protect account security, and understand the platform’s overall performance.

3. How We Use Information

We do not sell personal information.

We do not use learner information for targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising.

4. Children’s and Learner Privacy

Dorothy’s Corner provides educational content intended for children, including children under 13, but accounts must be created and managed by an adult.

A parent or legal guardian may create learner profiles for children in their household. An educator or other authorized adult may create or manage learner profiles only when the adult has the authority and any permission required to do so.

We collect learner information from the adult who creates the learner profile and through the learner’s use of the educational platform. This may include profile information, activity responses, goals, progress, points, achievements, preferences, and technical information needed to operate and secure the service.

We use learner information only to provide, personalize, maintain, secure, and improve Dorothy’s Corner and to allow the responsible adult to manage the learner’s educational experience. We do not allow learners to make their personal information publicly available through Dorothy’s Corner.

Before a learner begins using features that save learner-generated activity, the parent or legal guardian must review our parental notice and complete our permission-confirmation process using the verified email address associated with the adult account. The adult may review or withdraw that permission through the Adult Console.

Parents and legal guardians may request to:

  • Review the personal information associated with their child, including stored written responses
  • Correct inaccurate learner information
  • Delete a learner profile and its associated information
  • Withdraw permission for continued collection or use of the child’s information

Requests may be sent to support@dorothyscorner.com. We may take reasonable steps to verify the identity and authority of the person making the request before providing access to or deleting learner information.

If we learn that a child created an account without appropriate adult involvement or provided personal information in a manner not permitted by Dorothy’s Corner, we will take reasonable steps to remove the information and address the account.

5. Parents, Guardians, and Educators

The adult account holder controls the learner profiles connected to the account and can access information about learner activity through the Adult Console.

The adult account holder is responsible for:

  • Creating and managing learner profiles
  • Deciding what learner profile information to provide
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of the adult account and PIN
  • Supervising learner access when appropriate
  • Ensuring that the adult has authority to provide information about each learner
  • Contacting us if learner information should be reviewed, corrected, or deleted

Educators, schools, programs, and other organizations are responsible for obtaining any permissions required before providing learner information to Dorothy’s Corner.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Dorothy’s Corner and its service providers may use cookies, local storage, session storage, and similar technologies to:

  • Keep users signed in

  • Prevent fraud and misuse
  • Provide requested platform functionality
  • Diagnose errors and measure technical performance

Some cookies and similar technologies are necessary for Dorothy’s Corner to function. Blocking them may prevent certain features from working correctly.

Dorothy’s Corner does not use information collected from learners through cookies or similar technologies for targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising.

7. How We Disclose Information

We may disclose information in the following limited circumstances:

We may provide information to companies that help us operate Dorothy’s Corner. These providers may include:

These providers may process information only as needed to perform services for us or as otherwise permitted by their agreements and applicable law.

Legal and Safety Reasons

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to:

  • Comply with a law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or legal process
  • Respond to lawful requests from government authorities
  • Protect the rights, safety, security, or property of Dorothy’s Corner, our users, or others
  • Investigate fraud, security incidents, misuse, or violations of our agreements

Business Changes

If Dorothy’s Corner is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar business transaction, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and appropriate confidentiality protections.

We do not sell learner information or disclose learner information to third parties for their independent targeted advertising purposes.

8. Third-Party Services

Dorothy’s Corner relies on third-party services to operate the platform. These companies maintain their own privacy policies and security practices.

You may review their privacy information here:

Dorothy’s Corner does not control third-party websites that users independently choose to visit. This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected through Dorothy’s Corner.

9. Data Security

  • Encrypted HTTPS connections
  • Managed authentication
  • Access controls
  • Account and PIN protections
  • Database security rules
  • Trusted infrastructure and payment providers
  • Monitoring and protections intended to detect unauthorized activity

No website, database, or method of electronic transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. We therefore cannot guarantee absolute security.

Adult account holders are responsible for keeping passwords and PINs confidential and for notifying us if they believe an account has been accessed without authorization.

10. Data Retention

We retain adult account, learner profile, activity, progress, subscription, and related information for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Maintain an active account

When an account or learner profile is deleted, or when deletion is requested and verified, we will delete or de-identify associated information unless retention is reasonably necessary or legally required. Learner-generated responses, reflections, journal entries, goals, and notes are deleted through the existing permanent learner-deletion process in the Adult Console.

Some information may remain temporarily in secure backups or be retained in de-identified form that can no longer reasonably be connected to a particular person or learner.

We do not retain personal information collected from children for longer than reasonably necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected.

11. Privacy Rights and Choices

Depending on where a user lives, the user or responsible adult may have the right to:

  • Request access to personal information
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of personal information
  • Request a copy of certain information
  • Object to or restrict certain uses of information
  • Withdraw permission where processing is based on permission
  • Appeal certain decisions concerning a privacy request

To submit a request, email support@dorothyscorner.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.”

The request should identify the adult account and describe the requested action. Do not email passwords, PINs, complete payment-card information, Social Security numbers, or copies of identity documents unless we specifically request an appropriate verification method.

We may need to verify the requester’s identity and authority before completing a request. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.

Users may unsubscribe from promotional emails using the unsubscribe link in those emails. Account, billing, security, and other essential service communications may still be sent while an account remains active.

12. Advertising and Affiliate Links

Dorothy’s Corner does not use learner information for targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising.

Public or adult-directed areas of Dorothy’s Corner may display sponsorships, advertisements, recommendations, or affiliate links in the future. If these features are introduced, they will be limited to appropriate public or adult-directed areas and will not be based on a learner’s activity or personal information.

An affiliate link may allow Dorothy’s Corner to earn a commission if an adult chooses to make a purchase. The presence of an affiliate link does not give the third-party seller access to learner profiles or learner progress information from Dorothy’s Corner.

13. United States Audience

Dorothy’s Corner is operated from the United States and is currently intended primarily for users located in the United States.

If Dorothy’s Corner is accessed from another country, information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in the user’s country.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Dorothy’s Corner changes or as required by law.

When we make changes, we will post the revised policy and update the “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we collect, use, or disclose children’s personal information, we will provide additional notice and obtain any permission required by applicable law before applying the new practice.
